- Lavish shawl crafted of tulle and embroidered with tally, the ancient art of single stitch embroidery using metal threads, sometimes of silver or gold. The tally artisan makes one stitch at a time, then cuts the thread off and moves on to work on the next stitch. The motifs, which are highly geometric and folkloric, have their roots in ancient art forms found throughout Egypt's diverse and rich history. The tally art had been in decline in Egypt for decades, but is still preserved by some artisans in villages on the banks of the Nile River in southern Egypt
